Flash Flood Washes Out Trunk or Treat

Flash Flood Washes Out
Trunk or Treat
First, I want to apologize for not sending this update sooner, and thank you all for your patience and understanding following tonight's cancellation.
With more than 60 trunks registered and over 5,000 flyers distributed to local schools, our seventh annual Trunk or Treat was shaping up to be one of our best. We know how much time, creativity, hard work, and money each person and business puts into making this night special for the children in our community. We are heartbroken that we couldn’t see all of that effort come together tonight.
Like many of you, we watched the weather closely, hoping the rain would pass as it so often does. But today’s storm was different. In my 44 years living here, I have never witnessed such a fast-moving, destructive flash flood. Water in the Rotary Park parking lot rose to approximately four feet, leaving cars partially submerged and the fields muddy and flooded. There was simply no safe way to move forward.
We considered rescheduling for tomorrow, Halloween. However, with the weather remaining unpredictable and several other Trunk or Treat events already planned, along with traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating, we decided not to reschedule this year. We encourage families to enjoy those other community events, weather permitting, and have a safe and happy Halloween.
We will refund everyone’s $20 registration fee. We know that does not come close to covering the time and money you spent preparing for tonight. Please know that we recognize and deeply appreciate everything you put into making this event special.
Thank you for showing up for our community and helping create wonderful memories for our kids year after year. Your generosity makes this event possible, and we look forward to coming together again next year—with hopefully much better weather.
Please keep an eye out for an upcoming announcement about a fall event you may like to participate in. We would love another opportunity to bring everyone together.
Stay safe, and thank you again for your support and understanding.
Sincerely, Grace Hecht
